Circadian Trust invests in Technogym digital eco-system to support community wellness mission
Circadian Trust is a social enterprise operating as an independent charity, which manages five Active Lifestyle Centres across South Gloucestershire. Through a collaborative partnership with Technogym that dates back to 1996, Circadian Trust has continually innovated its health and fitness offering. Jim Rollo, Head of Health and Wellbeing, and Dave Smele, Senior Health and Wellbeing Manager at Circadian Trust, explained why the recent gym upgrades focused on a digital ecosystem.

Collaboration with partners at the forefront of wellness
Circadian Trust has worked in partnership with Technogym since 1996, following Technogym’s innovation pathway to react quickly to changes in trends and consumer demand.
“Technogym’s research and development is ahead of the curve, which allows us to react to market change quickly.” said Jim Rollo, Head of Health and Wellbeing. “One of the most significant innovations is the use of AI in the Technogym ecosystem which allows us to collect important health data to be more evidence-based and impact health outcomes across the county.”
Increasing reach with a digital-led member journey
At the centre of the Trust’s digital ecosystem is Technogym App, which links with third party platforms and providers in the community to give members a frictionless digital home for their wellness activities in and out of the centres.
“The entire Technogym ecosystem is seamless, from the gym equipment and assessment tools to the Technogym app and the full cloud-based system,” said Jim. “It all helps us monitor users and gather data to evidence the ways we are improving people’s mental and physical health.”
Technogym Checkup is available at all five sites, and forms a vital part of member onboarding and retention. Technogym Checkup is an AI-powered assessment tool that delivers compelling user data across body composition, mobility, balance, cognitive skills, cardio, and strength. Technogym Checkup helps Trust wellness staff get baseline statistics for new members, which helps them create personalised member journeys. Using Technogym Checkup for assessments provides motivating data that keeps members engaged, which is especially valuable for health users on referral pathways.

AI-driven technology to measure member outcomes
Following the success of Biocircuit, the decision was made to install Technogym Biostrength into Kingswood, a smaller centre on the outskirts of Bristol. The Kingswood gym now features the latest strength and conditioning equipment, including Technogym Skill Line of Skillrun, Skillup, and Skillmill.
AI-based Biostrength is situated on the gym floor where it offers members a guided full-body strength training experience that adapts to the user when they log-in, and has seen a 17% increase in one rep max strength tests. Like Biocircuit, the AI-driven technology ensures users get a perfect workout that delivers valuable biofeedback.
"Biostrength is the equipment of the future,” said Dave Smele, Senior Health and Wellbeing Manager. “In 10 years, every bit of equipment on the gym floor will be like this. We are at the cutting edge by offering Biostrength now.”
Biostrength is a complete strength training system that uses Biodrive technology powered by AI to give users full guidance through biofeedback for the optimal strength training experience with no user input necessary.
Investment in innovation
With digital now firmly at its core, the Trust’s approach to wellness is having a measurable impact on long term health outcomes for local communities.
